(no subject)

[ Neku wouldn't say it out loud even held at gunpoint--but it had been nice having Josh around. No one else had the time or sanity for Neku's pity parties. Joshua, though, didn't seem to mind staying up late with him, playing his dumb mindless rhythm games, watching garbage anime, or just ... talking. The way they were right now.

They didn't talk about why Neku had been such a recluse the past few weeks, mind you. And Neku appreciated it. He needed a distraction, and Joshua was the definition of one. From his motor mouth to--how unfairly gorgeous he looked all the time.

Joshua looked especially perfect with the white light from the television screen illuminating his profile. They had long lost interest in finding a film or show to put on. They would rather chat and just look at each other while sitting on his couch.

Neku had felt a pit in his stomach all day. They were plenty close to each other, but he was itching to be closer. He found himself reaching out, and his fortitude crumbled as he brushed a curl out of Joshua's face. ]

"... I'm sorry. That you had to go through all of that."

hot angry boy comin at you

[ ... sigh.
There he is again. That kid he's known since middle school but never really known known. They've never held a conversation; never had a class together; never even brushed elbows in the hallway. But Neku has always been uncannily aware of him.

To be fair: was anyone not aware of Yoshiya Kiryu? He stood out in every way a person can, down to his blond curls you could pick out in a room full of people. You'd think he would be popular looking the way he did. But it might as well be a target on his back, or a giant red arrow pointing to everything else that made him different. There was a scapegoat for teenage insecurity in every school, and ... Yoshiya was the unspoken go-to.

Neku had a strict policy of minding his own fucking business. When he saw a scuffle, he kept walking. When he caught someone shop lifting, he turned the other way. When a guy on the subway tries to--okay, no, he did shove himself between perverts on the subway and the women they were trying to feel up. But that was--subtle, okay? He wasn't a hero type, is the point. And he didn't expect anyone to pay him favors, either. But ...

Something about this made his stomach coil. The way everyone just--ignored the group of boys who cornered Yoshiya like goddamn hyenas, almost every day, right on school property. Like he was invisible. There was just something despicable about it, and today--today he couldn't stand it anymore.

He needed to blow off some steam, anyway. Fucking final exams.

He crossed the lawn with all the casual quiet of taking a stroll in a park. No need to announce himself, after all. He could let his actions speak for him, like he always did. There was a reason everyone left him alone. He wore his thoughts on his face, and he was usually thinking go the hell away.

The headphones around his neck were blasting the most fittingly intense death metal that coincidence could muster when he cracked his fist into that annoying, obnoxious, godawful face he was sick and tired of seeing every day. The guy stumbled from the impact, and it was the most satisfying goddamn moment of Neku's life so far.

Asshole McGee here really needed to get better friends; they were laughing at him now as he clutched his jaw. ]
